COOLVENT: A MULTIZONE AIRFLOW AND THERMAL ANALYSIS SIMULATOR FOR NATURAL VENTILATION IN BUILDINGS

Understanding the effects of natural ventilation on the comfort levels of a building, during the early stages of its design, can have a considerable positive impact on its final energy comsumption. CoolVent is a user friendly natural ventilation simulation that allows visualizing such effects, requireing only the building's bulk characteristics. Unlike similar pograms, it couples multi-zone airflow and thermal analysis to predict zone temperatures and airflow rates. This paper provides an introduction to CoolVents's interface, its physical model, and typical results. it is expected that the use of simple tools like CoolVent will promote a wider and smarter use of nature ventilation in buildings
